Thank you for visiting our website and taking privacy as seriously as we do. Below, you will find some more information about the ENSURED project’s digital presence as well as our compliance with the German Federal Data Protection Act and the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
In presenting our data protection policy, we want to be as clear as possible. It should not be a chore to understand how your data is used and what your rights are. The following sections detail the different ways in which we collect, use and handle your data. Each section also points to the respective privacy policies of services we use to operate this website.
In legal terms, the Global Public Policy Institute in Berlin – a member of the ENSURED consortium – is the ‘legal data controller’ of any information you share on this website. GPPi collects, uses, and discloses information collected by and through this site in accordance with the terms outlined below.
We strive to protect our visitors’ privacy across all websites that we operate. At any time, you have the right to ask us what data we have collected on you as well as to request that we update or delete this data. By accessing, browsing, or otherwise using the ENSURED website, you acknowledge that you have read this privacy policy.

Website Tracking and Cookies
We presently use the web analytics tool Matomo to help us determine how visitors use this website. When you visit this website and its different pages, Matomo collects certain anonymized information about you. Examples are the date and time of your visit, the pages you looked at, and the IP address of the device on which you visited the ENSURED website. We only use this data in an aggregate form to make sure our website is functioning correctly, to determine use patterns, and to improve our online presence (in legal terms, our ‘legitimate interest’). We do not share this information with anyone else.
Matomo does not combine your IP address or any other collected information with any personally identifiable information. To make this work, Matomo saves a “cookie” – a small text document – on your computer. You can prevent Matomo from recognizing you when you return to our site by disabling cookies in your browser options. For more information, please see Matomo’s privacy policy.
ENSURED Newsletter
If you sign up for our newsletter and thus provide your explicit consent to receive information from ENSURED, you will receive an email from us twice a year. To make sure you receive our newsletter, we need your email address. We use a double opt-in process to manage our newsletter subscriptions, which means that we only send you our newsletter if you explicitly allowed us to do so. We save this data and use it only for the purpose of sending you our newsletter. We do not share your personal data with anyone else and you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time. You also have the right to ask us to delete your contact information from our mailing list. To do so, just click the “unsubscribe” link included at the very bottom of each newsletter or contact us at ensured@gppi.net.
To manage our contacts and distribute our newsletter, we currently use the service MailChimp. This service is compliant with the European and German data protection regulations. For more information on MailChimp’s privacy policy, please visit their website.
How We Use, Share and Retain Your Data
We use the information we collect through this website to share updates about the ENSURED project only – and only if we have your explicit consent that you want to receive such updates.
Correspondingly, any personal information you have provided through this website will only be shared with other members of the ENSURED consortium and their affiliated organisations. We will not share your data with non-affiliated third parties without your consent.
Unless you request that your data be removed at an earlier point in time, any information we collect through this website will be stored for the duration of the ENSURED project (November 2023 – December 2026) only and will be deleted after the project ends.
Social Media and Other Services
We take pride in our work and the contributions we publish through ENSURED. For this reason, we want to make it easy for our website visitors to share content from our pages with their own networks.
